Skincare essentials – Normal/Dry Skin – Morning & Night
Though we are moving from wintertime to summertime and our skin may not be as dry and flakey or as pale and pasty, dry skin guys and gals always need products with maximum hydration no matter what the season.
Personally, it does not matter what time of the year; my skin is always sensitive and always dry/thirsty. I have found the perfect set of products for my young, but dry/sensitive skin to help maximize brightness, plumpness, and hydration. All of these products have great benefits for multiple skin types, but these are great for early anti-aging properties, pore cleansing products to help clear minor breakouts and keep skin clear without stripping natural, essential oils in your face and keep hydration locked in all day!
No more cakey makeup, no more flakey dry skin, reduce pore size and fine lines with these four small steps, you have all the products you need for hydrated, youthful looking skin!
Step One—Facial Cleanser:
Use this morning and night;
At night, wet face, and lather up a pea size of the cleanser in your hand until foamy. Work in circular motions all over face & eyes. Very gentle on eyes & removes every trace of makeup!
In the morning, repeat steps to cleanse face of oils and dirt accumulated over nighttime.
This product is great for all skin types, but especially dry/sensitive skin. Some info about the products ingredients and benefits;
-Fatty Acid Capturing Ingredient: Thoroughly removes fatty acids from deep within pores to prevent damage and breakouts.
-AMT: Cleanses and preserves skin’s natural moisture.
-TMG: Natural exfoliant to clarify and smooth skin’s surface.
-Trehalose: Provides moisture during cleansing.
For sensitive skin, use 1-2 times per week Clarisonic Spin brush for deep-pore cleaning action. This product removes makeup six times better than traditional methods, Clears pores and reduces the appearance of pore size, Cleanses so thoroughly that skincare products absorb better, Creates noticeably healthier looking skin!
For normal skin/oily acne-prone skin, Clarisonic use daily is encouraged!
Use this either sprayed on a cotton pad and pressed onto face, or spray directly onto face and let dry. This toner allows for extra, all-day hydration but also helps
Not only will this help in hydrating the skin for a plump and toned complexion. This product also has great multi-use, mist all over face to revitalize and re-hydrate the skin throughout the day, set makeup, and soothe irritations.
About the product ingredients:
-100% Pure Rosewater: Calms and tones the skin.
Once face is dry, use two-three droplets of this product and work all over face in circular motions.
TIP: Instead of rubbing product all over face, dry circular motions combined with pressing motions to help push product into skin for maximum benefit!
This product helps with deep hydration by penetrating deeply and absorbing quickly to fortify and repair skin for instant, long-lasting hydration that produces a fresh, radiant glow. This purified water plumps and hydrates while argan oil preserves and nourishes, locking moisture in and preserving skin’s youthful cushion! (Description from Sephora.com)
Step Four—Eye cream
From young-mature skin, this is the all time MOST IMPORTANT step in skin care. Our skin around our eyes is the most delicate and the thinnest of all our face/body.
Use light amount on ring finger; use dabbing/patting (never pulling) motions around eye area. This product will not migrate into your eyes and will create maximum hydration.
Enriched with avocado, this product is great for the ultimate hydration, plump the area around the eyes, diminish fine-lines and dark circles, as well as help with a base for smooth makeup application!

Most every aspect of summer excites me, especially after the long and dreadful winter we just had. We are anxious for long BBQ dinners alfresco, after dinner trips for ice cream cones, and late night marshmallow roasting over bonfires.
The one thing that Im dreading are the annoying insects that the warm weather draws. Mosquitoes, Fleas, and those nasty ticks can make an evening out miserable and ruined. Today I’m sharing my recipe for natural bug repellent. It is safe and effective. It does not have the dangerous ingrediants that many store bought products contain. I use two variations, one is a cream and one is a spray. There are a number of essentials oils that are successful at deterring these bugs.
MOSQUITOES- citronella, lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, catnip, basil, clove, lemongrass, lavender, geranium, and thyme.
TICKS-rose geranium, juniper, oregano, thyme, grapefruit, and rosewood
Feel free to develop your own combination of these blends. There are very distinct scents to each oil combination, here is the blend I prefer.
BUG SPRAY CREAM
In a small jar the size of baby food combine coconut oil to 3/4 full
add 40 drops of each essential oil and stir to blend
for use dab on wrists, inside arms, behind knees, and around ankles
NATURAL BUG SPRAY
Witch hazel or Rubbing Alcohol
Combine 4 oz. Witch Hazel or Rubbing Alcohol
4 oz of filtered water
40-50 drops of each essential oil
Spray over clothing before needed
I would love to hear your feedback. Please comment if you like this post, or share with us your favorite essential oil blends and uses.
As always thank you for stopping by….xDanielle

Today we’re here to share with you part one of our Breakfast in Bed series shot by Mackenzie Lamoureux Photography and styled by me, Amanda – oh, and I can’t forget to add a huge thank you to my handsome boyfriend for putting up with my crazy creative ideas (you’re the real MVP).
But, anyway, back to the blog.
Are you anxiously awaiting the weekend and maybe feeling a bit of the mid-week blues? This post hopefully will color up your day with some pretty pictures and inspiration for your weekend to come.
So, we all see “date night in” ideas on Pinterest, they’re composed of chinese food & a movie or card games & a few drinks… and, don’t get me wrong those can be fun, but how about spicing up your “date night in” with a little breakfast in bed? Now, as Kenzie pointed out in her blog post, we did not “wake up like this” however, many mornings of ours are spent together cooking omelets and drinking coffee. It’s our quiet time before our busy day begins. We both live a crazy hectic life so we embrace the little quiet time in the morning we get to spend together.
With that being said, we hope you enjoy the photos and have a wonderful rest of the week and an even better weekend! Continue scrolling to see a full style guide & recipe.
Recipe for 1 omelet:
eggs – beat 2 eggs in side bowl and pour over skillet on medium heat
spinach – add a handful spinach and break into smaller pieces – add as the egg begins to cook
ham – I use two slices of ham (but you could use any sort of meat/protein) and again break them into smaller pieces and add into the cooking omelet
turkey bacon – a healthier alternative to bacon that will add a nice flavor to your omelet. before cooking the egg, pop two slices in the microwave or on a skillet so they’re already cooked and ready to throw into the egg once it’s partially cooked
cheese – top with a handful of cheese & fold the omelet over and make sure the egg is fully cooked!
top with salt & pepper to taste!

Fathers Day is almost here! I decided that I would put together a custom shopping guide thats sure to suit many different flavors of Fathers. Because they are all one of kind and they all have their mark! Ive curated a broad range of unique items into three categories. I hope you find something to suit his fancy here!
Mr. Matchlight: def. is a lover of the outdoors, adventure, and family time. Idea of a summer vacation would be a good old fashioned camping trip sans luxury. “Toy” is a lawnmower. Cooks a mean t-bone and a perfectly roasted marshmallow.
Mr. Pinstripe: def. is a businessman at heart. A structured provider with a dapper wardrobe. “Toy” is a car with freshly armor oiled dashboard. Goes to a high end salon for hair cuts. Enjoys finer things, and might have a large weekly dry clean bill.
Mr. Stud: def. is quick to fix a leaky faucet dripping in the night. Frequently checks the fire alarms. “Toys” are tools. Surgeon of many specialties from broken appliances to broken barbies. Often has grease stains on pants, mere signs of a good days hard work!
As a girl who has an amazingly wonderful father,my “Mr.Stud” and an amazing wonderful partner, my “Mr.Matchlight” I feel so grateful every day to have these men in my world. I hope you find something special here to honor the love of the men in your world.

Breakfast is my favorite meal. I love weekends because it allows us more time to enjoy it. I love sleeping in, cuddling a little longer with my lovelies and slowly entering into the day. I have one little boy who loves to cook so we are usually a team in weekend breakfast preparations. He is going to make quite a husband someday! I truly believe that when you put a little heart and soul into your food it has remarkable payoffs. There are so many studies that have been done around the importance of eating rituals and their effect on health. Establishing routines within your home will ensure that your children have a healthy relationship with food for the rest of their lives. My mother is an amazing cook, I can not remember ever hearing her recite orders into a loud speaker at a drive thru window. This healthy eating ritual is engrained into my lifestyle as a mother. I realize that life is super busy and their is always somewhere to run off to, but carving out time to nourish your body should be priority. Wake up ten minutes early, or take ten minutes longer to get going on weekend chores. Make beautiful meals, make messes, and make memories. Plan this weekends ritual today! Add Meraki!
Here are a few of Our Favorite Gluten Free Breakfast Recipes:
Gluten Free Fruit & Hemp Seed Pancakes
*The best gluten free flour ever is Americas Test Kitchen Blend. I dare you to serve this recipe to your family and see if anyone notices that they are eating gluten free. Its AMAZING and has made my life so much easier. Make a huge container and it will carry you through many, many recipes. I purchase all these products on amazon.com. If you do not want to use this blend than use King Arthur Gluten Free Pancake Mix as a close second. Follow the pancake recipe on the box and add your own flavor!
24 ounces (4 1/2 cups plus 1/3 cup) white rice flour
7 1/2 ounces (1 2/3 cups) brown rice flour
7 ounces (1 1/3 cups) potato starch
3 ounces (3/4 cup) tapioca starch
3/4 ounce (3 tablespoons) nonfat milk powder
1. Whisk flour blend, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together in large bowl. In separate bowl whisk buttermilk, egg yolks, and melted butter.
2. Whip egg whites until foamy with mixer, about 1 minute. Gradually add sugar until stiff peaks form.
3. Whisk buttermilk mixture into flour mixture and gently fold in whipped egg whites.
4. Heat teaspoon of oil over medium heat until shimmering. Wipe with paper towel to leave thin film of oil. Add about 1/4 cup batter into skillet and cook until bottoms are brown and top is bubbling. Flip and cook 1 -2 minutes longer.
We really like to use cookie cutters to make our pancakes really cute and special. We switch up our fruit ingredients…mashed bananas, a homemade cinnamon butter, and of course chocolate chips! The importance is letting your children feel like they are making their own decisions about what they are putting into their bodies, there is importance to this feeling of ownership.
(my favorite gluten free wrap is Trader Joes Brown Rice Wrap) it is not my choice for a cold sandwich but for a heated use like this its perfect!
Diced Peppers, Onions, & Mushrooms
Shredded Organic Cheese
1. Scramble your eggs. You do not need to add milk here, just scramble good and they will be light and fluffy.
2. Add your chopped peppers, onions, and mushrooms to your scrambled. You can really use any vegetable that you prefer, we like to make it feel like a mexican burrito and hence chose these.
3. Sprinkle Cheese Atop!
4. Remove Egg Mixture from Skillet.
5. Add a tab of butter to skillet and throw in your wrap.
6. Fill wrap with scramble mixture
7. Roll wrap up like a burrito, ensuring that each side gets a nice crispy brown glow.
3. Sweet Potato Shred
Okay, this is one of my favorites. Its super simple, really pretty, and oh so healthy.
Trader Joe’s All Purpose Seasoning
1. Heat tab of coconut oil in a skillet.
2. Use a potato peeler to remove and discard skin of sweet potatoes
3. Continue to shred with peeler into heated skillet
4. Turn Sweet Potatoes, Season, and allow to cook until soft.
5. Toss in Handfuls of Fresh Kale and allow to cook additional three minutes.

Looking for a fresh daytime makeup look that will leave you feeling flawless? Makeup artist, Mackenzie Lamoureux, walks you through step by step on achieving this look with tips links to purchase the products. At the end of the tutorial you’ll see how you can easily turn this daytime look into a night time glam – add a little smokey eye and throw on some lashes.
Have questions? Or interested in getting your makeup done for your next event. You can find Mackenzie on her website, here.
Step 1: PRIMER
For everyday use, apply a smoothing primer to help smooth skin and prep for foundation. A primer helps keep your makeup lasting all day, but also provides a smooth base for uneven skin texture and color.
For dry skin types, try a hydrating and smoothing primer.
For oily skin types, try a matte or pore filling primer.
Get it Here: Temptu Smoothing and Matte Primer
Step 2: HIGHLIGHTER
This step is optional, if you love your to look like it is glowing from within, apply a liquid highlighter to high points of the face (T-zone).
Your (T-zone) is exactly that, making a T on your face. Forehead, down nose, to chin. Across cheekbones.
This is great for all skin types, oily skin people may think they do not want to glow, but with a matte primer, this creates a youthful glow while keeping oil at bay!
Step 3: FOUNDATION
Use a natural, but medium coverage, skin looking foundation for everyday use! This foundation is great for covering imperfections and redness, but still managing to look like skin. Apply to back of hand, and stipple onto face working inward-outward with damp makeup sponge.
Great for all skin types, those who are looking for less coverage try a tinted moisturizer or BB cream!

Get it Here: Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge
Step 4: CORRECTOR
For those stubborn dark circles a lot of women, and most moms struggle with, try a peachy/orange toned corrector, apply just to dark pigmentation under eyes, and on eyelids to correct under concealer.
This step is optional, if dark circles are not an issue for you, skip and move on right to concealer!
Get it Here: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach
Step 5: CONCEALER
Use a weightless, natural finish concealer to not only cover but to high light and brighten darkness/redness on the face.
Apply to under eyes in a check mark shape, apply to bridge of the nose and up onto the forehead, as well as center of the chin and redness around the nose area.
Always use a concealer a few shades lighter to brighten and highlight these areas. Bronzing and contouring steps with help define and warm up the skin!
This is my all time, favorite concealer, it does exactly what it is named. Skin-like, Weightless, Full Coverage, all in one!
Blend with tip of beauty blender sponge to create a flawless, light application
Run your beauty blender sponge under water (approx. 15 seconds) and squeeze out all access water.
Using the beauty blender damp, not only helps the product not sink into the sponge, but lay on top, it helps sheer down any product to help diminish over-use of product but also create an airbrushed affect.
Step 6: Setting Powder
I know a lot of women are scared to use concealer, where it sometimes may look cakey, or crease under the eyes. Not only is using a damp beauty blender one tool to help diminish this, but using a sheer translucent powder to set under the eyes immediately after blending will help lock in concealer and create a flawless look under the eyes. Diminishing the look of wrinkles, discoloration and texture.
Leave heavy amount of powder under eyes while applying your eyeshadow. I promise we will come back to this step!!!
Get it Here: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Step 6: EYESHADOW
Start eyes by applying a matte light cream color all over the lid and brow bone (Free spirit mixed w/ super mom) using a flat shader brush.
TIP: When you think you are done blending your shadows, keep blending, the more blending the better!!! When using darker colors, taking a clean, unused fluffy blending brush can help to blur harsh lines!
Step 8: EYE LINER
Use a gel liner to create the perfect, subtle cat eye. Using matte black liner helps keep liner from looking shiny and won’t budge all day.
Then start from corner of your eye, working your way in, drawing a sharp line along the upper lash line!
Connect the point of the first initial line, with the liner on your lash line!
The spongey tip of this liner and precise point makes the cat eye almost fool proof!!!
Get it Here: Benefit They’re Real Push up Liner
Step 9: BRUSH AWAY
Once shadow & liner is finished, use large tapered fluffy brush to wipe away access powder under eyes.
Leaving the large amount of powder under the eyes to sit, helps not only with setting the concealer flawlessly, but wipes away any dark shadow fall out from the eyeshadow application process!!!
Step 10: BRONZER
Take a matte bronzer and apply in a three motion to each side of the face.
Starting in the hollows of the cheek bones, around the temples and tops of forehead, and down along your jaw line.
This technique will create a subtle, everyday contour!
Blend, blend, blend!

Step 11: HIGHLIGHT
Take a champagne coloring highlighter and apply to the tops of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose and to the cupid’s bow. (The cupids bow is the area right above your upper lip where your lip curves)
This technique will create a glowing gorgeous touch to the high points of your face.

Step 12: MASCARA
Apply any black mascara to the tops and bottoms of your lashes, use wiggling motions from the root of the lash to the tip.
Get it Here: Loreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara
Step 13: BROWS
Use any matte shadow shade to match your brow color and apply powder with an angled liner brush. Start color at the tail of the brow and use access product to fill in hair’s in the front.
Brows should have a gradual fade, lighter in the front, and darker toward the tail of the brow!
(Shadow used from Tartelette Palette)
Step 14: LINER
Use a nude colored liner and add to lower lash water line to create a wider looking eye!
Get it Here: Nars long wearing eye liner in Rue Bonaparte
Step 15: LIPS
Use a matte, mauve colored lip crayon to create a “Your lips but better” shade!
Get it Here: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Elusive
Change makeup look from Daytime to Nighttime
Take a dark brown/mauve color with same fluffy brush from earlier and apply to create to deepen up color within the crease! (Dreamer & Bombshell)

Reapply to darken eyeliner if necessary & pop on a pair of false lashes and you are ready for a night out!

If you are anything like me you have this yearning inside you to accomplish great things. Maybe it’s the fulfillment of being able to travel, create beautiful art, or time to help others. If you know this feeling then you know it has nothing to do with money, but has everything to do with following your dream and pursuing your passion(s). So the first step to following your passion is finding out what exactly those passions are.
For me, I always had an inkling of what I liked to do. In high school I was an all-state athlete in two varsity sports which left little time to do anything else so when I was deciding on what college to go to I knew it was time to put sports behind me. Not because I didn’t love it, but because I knew there were other avenues I wanted to explore. I picked up photography, took a few art classes and spent a lot of time working hard in my classes. I always knew I loved working with people and that’s why as soon as I took one Communications course, I was hooked. This worked well with my emerging photography business and still today I can’t decide which one I like more.
The two most common questions I get asked are – “What are you going to do with your major” (aka what job do you want) and/or “Are you going to do photography full-time.” And to be completely honest, I don’t know the answer to either of those questions. I believe the reason that I’ve been able to succeed is because I’m not ready to commit myself to any one thing. But to dive in and surround myself with everything I’m passionate about. I’m constantly reading articles and blogs about anything and everything. I follow brands and entrepreneurs that inspire me and have what I see as a dream job. I’m constantly reaching out to industry leaders asking to grab a coffee just so I can pick their brain. I attend networking events whenever I can and give my business card to anyone I have a connection with. Entering my senior year of college I’ve done two internships and am on track to do one more. So my biggest words of advice to anyone trying to find your passion –
Put yourself out there. Never stop learning. Ask for help. You will be rewarded.
Want some more inspiration? Here are a few of my favorite things.
I Am That Girl by Alexis Jones
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
The EveryGirl Blog
Marie Forelo and Marie TV
I hope this sparked your brain and heart to start follow your passions – because really, life is too damn short.
The best way to begin is to write it down. What are you passions? What’s your dream life look like? What does success mean to you? When it’s time to look back on your life, what do you want to have accomplished? Start there and see where it takes you.

One of the most frequent questions I get from friends and followers is where do I find the time to cook up beautiful, healthy meals for my family. I’ve gotten comments on my instagram meal posts like, “You must cook all day”. Well I wish I could…but I truly don’t. However I will not claim that it is an easy task and I completely understand why so many families opt for take out or drive thru eating. You think that your life is so busy that you simply do not have the time to prep, cook, and clean a healthy, colorful meal every week night. I’ve devised a plan to accomplish this feat in my own life and I am going to share these tips with you. I feel so completely moved to share this for many reasons. Our systems are simply not designed to process the synthetic, pesticide, processed foods that are quick and easy on the go choices. My system basically shut down due to poor nutrition and not taking care of my body. If I do not feed my body the natural, raw foods it requires I am not able to do all the things that I am so passionate about. Like running a design firm, managing my husbands business, keeping a busy multisport household happy , making money for our non profit foundation, and trying to be a wonderful friend and family member. Food is my magic potion! Its not a secret, we all innately know the answer but do you have the will power to make the change. I promise you that if you do your life will change and your body will thank you.
Here are my steps to an efficient, healthy eating lifestyle. This guideline might take a few weeks to get used to but I promise you it works! Ive tried many things and this tutorial is designed to share my valuable successful tools with huge rewards!
1. DOWNLOAD WUNDERLIST APP
This app is available on mobile, tablet, and desktops. Its basically a huge motherboard of your life. It has saved my life. It is equipped with all sorts of functions but for this post I will focus on how I use it for meal plan and prep.
So during the week I am constantly throwing items onto my “GROCERY” list that is in my wunderlist. I have also “SHARED” this list with my husband who has the app downloaded, so if we run out of an item he is able to throw it on our list as well. This really helps me to stay on track of staple items that we run out of in the house each week. Our phones are so glued to our bodies that you never have to worry about misplacing or forgetting an item on your list.
Another great thing that you can use this app for is to upload images and files. So if you find yourself enticed by a recipe in a magazine that you are reading while sitting in a doctors waiting room you no longer have to carefully and quietly rip it out while ever so swiftly tucking it into your never-ending abbess of a purse to be never seen again. You can simply tap your app, your recipe list and take a quick snap picture of the recipe. Its easy, clean, and so less embarrassing when your caught! Here’s one of my examples. (Don’t hate me but I missed the h in spaghetti)
2. SUNDAY MEAL PLAN
PART 1. Every Sunday morning I sit down with my cookbooks & my coffee and devise the weeks meal plan. This takes a little bit of time but has huge payoff. In an effort to eat clean I try to shop organic. Organic foods are very pricey and sometimes you just don’t have these extra funds to contribute to the grocery bill. We like to call Whole Foods “Whole Paycheck”. One day my mother and I were stopped by a total stranger in the lobby of the store so she could show us her $75.00 half filled brown bag. I know, It can be crazy but you can play the game smart! Heres how to eat clean and reduce the nasty pesticides and additives in standard grocery items.
PART 2. The second part of the Meal Plan is adding all the required ingredients to every recipe into your Wunderlist Grocery list. Remember to snap images of all your selected recipes in your Wunderlist app. This way you are not back searching for that recipe on Wednesday night when you start to cook, its already saved for quick access in your list. Obviously you can omit grocery items that you already have in the pantry or fridge. Therefor you are not buying another bottle of ketchup to only come home and find two more in the back of the shelf.
The next thing I do is decide where I will purchase each item. In Maine we have Trader Joes, it conveniently is located very close to Whole Foods. So I quickly run down my grocery list and place a Capital “TJ” Or “WF” next to each grocery item noting location. I save tons of money by purchasing most of my organic veggies at Trader Joes. However, I am not a fan of their meat department so I choose meats from the sale flyer and purchase these at Whole Foods.
3, GO SHOPPING
Now you are almost there girls and maybe guys! Grab your pocketbook, reusable bags, (and adorable baby in backpack if your me) and off shopping you go! Shopping is now significantly less time consuming than you would ever imagine. Even if you are crazy enough to go to two stores like I do. Its fast, and so efficient with a clearly designed list. No additional mid week trips for a forgotten item, theres an extra 20 minutes plus each week saved! Now I really try not to divert from the list, as this is where the spending adds up and often times food waste is created. Buy only enough food that you will eat that week. If a box of granola bars is on sale, of course but don’t go adding multiple items. Check off your items on your Grocery List as you get them. Stay on task!
4. MEAL PREPPING
This step is very CRUCIAL, especially for busy Moms. School pickups at 2:35, Tutoring from 3:15 to 4:30, Baseball Practice 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Where does dinner fit? It does! Heres how your going to get it done….When you return home on Sunday from Grocery Shopping you are going to wash all your veggies (I prefer a hydrogen peroxide light scrub), dry and dice or cut them up to preferred sizing. Store each fully cut vegetable in a storage container and throw in fridge. Every recipe seems lightyears less challenging during the week when items are chopped and ready to use. It will eliminate your desire to just order take out because your meal just looks so daunting with such a little window of time.
5. THE PAYOFF
Friday, May 1st, 2015
Okay, so a few posts ago we mentioned that whole lack of motivation thing when it comes to getting ourselves feelin’ good before summer season hits. So today we’re putting our money where our mouth is and giving you just the motivation you need to get your butt in gear. We have for you a kick-ass spring workout playlist that’s going to get you up and ready to hit the gym or maybe even take on that extra mile. Whatever way it keeps you motivated – we hope you enjoy it as much as we do! And like always, feel free to tag us in your favorite spring workout playlists with the #addmeraki.
If you’re an iTunes kinda girl…
If you prefer to let Pandora do the work…
Forewarning – A few of this songs/stations may contain explicit language. But as my Buti Yoga instructor would say, “The dirtier the better”
